Obituary - PETER SMALL, whose death we announced last week, is worthy of a passing tribute of respect. He had been a resident of Ellsworth from birth, was well known and respected in the community for his strict integrity and faithfulness in all business obligations. He had been for a long time in the employ of Messrs. Grant of this village, and it speaks well for him that he won their respect and confidence. He was a faithful communicant of the Catholic Church, an affectionate brother and dutiful son. His love to his aging parents was shown in deeds; therefore, his loss to them is a severe one, but there is another friend who will mourn his departure with the sincerest sorrow.

Obituary: Son and father, in Bluehill, Sept. 8, Mr. WARREN G. STEVENS, age 28 years, a patriot soldier and worthy member of the Fraternity of Masons and the Temple of Honor and Young Men's Christian Association of Hallowell, valued member of the Baptist Church in Bluehill. At the call of his country, he was among the 9-months men, served faithfully in battle and was discharged sick, and was supposed incurable but in a few months, recovering his health, he again enlisted in the 6th Maine [?]. He was wounded at Petersburg at the explosion of the mine, a minnie ball breaking and shattering his thighbone, managed to drag himself from the field. He suffered most intensely, gradually rallied but was never afterwards free of pain and suffering. In the spring of '66 he became a Christian and united with many others to the Baptist Church. Acute rheumatism made him an acute sufferer and at length consumption, seeding itself upon him, terminated his life.

In Bluehill, Nov. 22, the father of the above, Mr. VARNUM STEVENS, age 71 years, 4 months, a kind father and husband, a pillar of the Baptist Church, became a Christian nearly 20 years ago.

Bluehill, Jan. 21, after a short and very painful sickness, GEORGIANNA M., wife of Hiram CLOSSON and daughter of Byron W. and Eveline W. Darling, age 32. A dark cloud, heavily freighted with affliction, has been hanging over this household in the sickness of the mother who for three weeks has been just on the outer verge of life. The disease and affection of the heart was such as to give no hope of recovery. The departed one, the only surviving daughter, was the earthly staff upon which the father leaned in his severe trial. Mrs. C spoke of feeling unwell on Monday, the 17th; on Tuesday she wrote to her husband, who is soon expected at Boston from a foreign voyage, saying that she was well but could not meet him there as he desired, on account of the sickness of her mother. This letter, together with the telegram telling him of his severe affliction, awaits him there. Nothing serious was anticipated until Thursday afternoon when the disease, congestion of the lungs, began rapidly to develop its power. In response to the mother's request, the daughter occupied the same room until Friday afternoon when it became evident that she was near the end of her life, and that the mother must be removed to another room. The mother's chair was drawn to the daughter's bedside that they might speak a farewell word, exchange a parting kiss once more and for the last time on each other's face. The husband may be bereaved of wife and daughter. When told that she would not recover, she was unmoved. Her dear child, 3 years old, whom she loved as only a mother can love, she committed to the grandfather for earthly guidance. When she heard the call, she willingly bade adieu to loved friends, particularly her father and brother who were kneeling at her bedside. To her brother, she said, "Tell my husband that my last thoughts were about him and my Saviour."
