The sudden events which have taken from the earthly home these children have called out many expressions of sympathy. The members of the Ellsworth High School, at the close of the term recently, passed the following:

WHEREAS it seemed good to our Heavenly Father to take from us our beloved schoolmate and friend, Sarah Whitmore, therefore

RESOLVED that, while we deeply lament her loss and early death, we shall always cherish in our memory her goodness and kindness of heart, her pleasant and amiable disposition, and her bright example as a diligent scholar and trusted companion,

RESOLVED that we hereby express our sympathy with the stricken parents and that we, too, mourn with those that mourn,

RESOLVED that, as a mark of respect to the memory of our friend, we will as a school attend her funeral December 10 at 1 o'clock p.m.,

RESOLVED that a copy of these resolutions be forwarded by the secretary to her parents and also be entered upon the records of this school.

Testimonial of the Unitarian Sunday School - As it has pleased our Heavenly Father to lead our dear friends and schoolmates, Sarah and Mattie Whitmore, beside the still waters of the just beyond, we, the teachers and scholars, offer this expression of respect for their lives, so radiant with love and harmony.

Castine, 25th ult., ROWLAND H. BRIDGHAM, M.D., age 70 years, 8 months, of affection of the brain resulting in paralysis. He was confined to the room about 2 months, most of the time unconscious, vexed at intervals by fits either of passive or wild delirium. About two years since the first attacks of a mild character were observed, but, as afterwards he was out and attending to his usual business, it might have seemed to a casual observer that he had entirely recovered. As an ardent and successful politician, Democratic, he has had strong influence with his party in this section. For nearly 16 years he was Collector of the Customs in Castine District, the last four under the administration of President Pierce. One year he represented this senatorial district in the legislature. For two years before his residence in Castine, he served as representative from Sullivan, during which time he was active and influential in procuring the passage of that very beneficial act authorizing towns to cause general vaccination. At the expiration of the Pierce administration, he retired from public life, retaining, however, long as activity lasted, his warm interest, feeling an attachment to his political party. For the last 15 years he resumed his original profession, became an active and successful practitioner, acquiring in an unusual degree the confidence and attachment of his patients and friends.

Although she never publicly professed religion, she indulged a trembling hope in Christ in a revival as early as her 15th year. Although she was always very diffident in speaking of it, yet it was evidently a principle with her in life.

Obituary - Rev. EBENEZER PINKHAM, long and favorably known as a good minister of Jesus Christ, died in Sedgwick Oct. 28, 1870. He was born in Freeport March 22, 1790 and was accordingly in his 81st year. He became the subject of deep religious impressions quite early in life, but did not obtain hope in Christ until he completed his 18th year. He was baptized by Rev. Silas Sterns May 8, 1808. His first attempt at preaching was on Lord's Day August 12, 1810 in Pejepscot, now Auburn, Maine. For nearly two years he labored as a licentiate in his native town and about the same length of time in Belfast and the vicinity. In May 1814 he accepted a call from the First Baptist Church in Sedgwick; he was ordained here November 15, 1815. He served as a pastor of the First Church in Sedgwick three years, the church in Brooklin eight years, the First Church in Belfast two years, the church in East Trenton two years, and the church in Mariaville one year. He was pastor of the church in Woolwich from February 1833 until May 1835; the church in Harpswell from the fall of 1846 until the fall of 1850. Fifty years of his ministerial life was spent within the limits of Hancock association. Father Pinkham was not what would be called a great man. He possessed few prominent traits of character and his early educational advantages were somewhat limited, yet he was an acceptable preacher and a good degree of success attended his labors. He loved his work. He was twice married -- first in 1812 to REBEKAH PORTER of Freeport, and in 1843 to SARAH B. GORDON of Hancock. His first wife died in 1839, and his second in 1850. He found a good home in the family of General D, late of Sedgwick, whose generous hospitality he shared for many years. During the last three years of his life, he was supported by funds gathered for this purpose from various sources. His last earthly home was in the family of our much esteemed Christian brother, Nathan Parker, who with his estimable lady ministered to the necessities of the departed with the utmost tenderness and care. At his funeral, a sermon was preached by his pastor from Hebrews 11:4: "He being dead yet speaketh."
